Last week, I evaluated a patient who was having knee pain while running
She hurt her knee a couple weeks ago and each time she tried to run since then, her knee pain would prevent her from completing the run
During the initial evaluation, I had her run on the treadmill for a few minutes for my running gait analysis
She told me she was feeling her knee pain as she was running
I got her off the treadmill and we analyzed the video footage together
I pointed out some components of her running stride that were contributing to her knee pain and suggested a change to her running form that I then had her practice
She got back on the treadmill and, voilà, she was running pain free after 1 change
It took some mental focus and deliberate adjustments to the way she was running, but she could run pain free
That patient ran 3 miles later that same day without pain
She had previously been stuck in a cycle where each time she ran, her knee would stop her
Now she’s back to running
After 1 change on the first day of treatment
Pain free running might not be as far away as you think
If you’ve never had your running form analyzed and corrected, that might be the silver bullet for youI’ve helped many of my patients get back to running pain free by utilizing my running gait analysis
