You know how some things sound too good to be true? The kind where you hear the details and immediately think, what’s the catch?
That’s exactly how I feel about the Evanston Running Club’s free 0 to 5K training program.
It is genuinely free, and it is designed to take someone from zero running experience all the way to completing a full 5K. No tricks, no hidden requirements.
The group is made up of like minded runners and walkers who are new to the sport and figuring it out together. You do not have to train alone. You do not have to worry about how to structure your runs. You do not need to be a member of the club or even an Evanston resident to participate. You can join the group runs if you want, or follow the plan on your own.
The barrier to entry is incredibly low, and you can be as committed as you are ready to be.
The program begins on March 22nd and builds toward the Ricky Byrdsong Memorial Race Against Hate on Father’s Day, June 21st, 2026.
Evanston Running Club’s Free 0-5K Program Begins March 22nd!
There are three training groups, one for those planning to walk the entire 5K, one for run walk participants, and one for those aiming to run the full distance. All speeds and all experience levels are welcome. The goal is simple, get people moving and connected through the running community.
And yes, it is all completely free.
If you know someone who might be interested, send this along to them.
